October Favourites 2017

Hello there readers!

Today I am going to be doing my October favourites as I feel like I fell at the first hurdle after saying in my August favourites post that I would try and do it every month then neglected to do so straight away in September. My excuse is that the end of September was taken up largely by my  Coffee post which kind of acted as the post for that month as I was trying those bits out, so I am going to let myself off the hook.

Anyway. I'll put my excuses aside!

I haven't got a huge amount of products to show this month as the switch in warm to cold weather has reeked havoc on my skin, so makeup and skincare have been minimal. The products I have been using though have been used a lot, so without further ado, here are my October favourites.

As I mentioned above, the change in weather has caused my skin to become very dry, prone to spots, and I also have flaky almost eczema like rashes on my eye lids (attractive I know). I have been sticking to my usual Beauty Pie skincare but have added in a couple of extra steps to keep my skin looking as good as it can! I have spoken about this product before, as in January I was really suffering badly with my skin. I bought this Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, £5, Deciem and it cleared up my skin within a week. Once again, I have reached for this product everyday the last few weeks and it has improved any aggressive, painful and red spots and reduced them considerably. For such a small price tag, I would highly recommend the Ordinary to anyone who fancies a little dabble with the products available.

As my skin hasn't been it's best, I have been trying to avoid makeup as I feel it actually clings to the dryness and makes my skin look worse. Espcially around my eyes, I have been avoiding all eye makeup apart from mascara as my eyes feel so dry and agitated. However when my skin has been particularly bad and I have had no option but to cover it up with makeup, this No28 Primer Serum, £55.80, Hourglass has been the perfect hydrating base to make sure no foundation clings onto dry skin. I find primers often make the skin feel drier whereas this makes your skin really soft and almost a little oily which I find makes my makeup blend better. Another thing I love about this product is the smell. It has a really natural botanical smell and it makes me feel confident that the product is feeding my skin the healthy vitamins it needs. It contains 28 beneficial ingredients to feed skin to make it look hydrated, luminous, and healthy.

As my lips have been really dry, I have found lipstick hasn't been looking great and a bit patchy (I sound like the flakiest person in the world from this post). My natural lip colour is very pale so I do feel like I need to have something on them to make them look more defined. I have been using this Lip Glow, £21.25, Dior colour reviver balm as it naturally brings out the colour of your natural lips to make them look bolder but also hydrate like a balm. It works with your skin tone and just intensifies the look of your natural lip meaning you don't have to wear lipstick and you just have the feeling of balmy, soft lips.

Next is a fragrance and I have been absolutely loving which is Amber Rose, £55, Shay & Blue. I remember when Shay & Blue had just come out as I was working in a fragrance department. The creator behind the brand is a man called Dom De Vetta who used to be the global manager for Jo Malone and senior Vice President at Chanel. He wanted to create a beautiful boutique brand and he discovered Julie Masse, a 20 year old perfumer who had a flair for creating modern and unique fragrances. Paired together, they have gone on to create this really cute, niche brand which create genuinely lovely fragrances at affordable prices. They only do 100ml and 30ml fragrances, and they are so reasonably priced as they look so expensive.
I am not a huge lover of Rose alone, and I think these days a rose fragrance needs to have something about it on order to survive on the fragrance market, and this rose and amber fragrance is the perfect balance of sweet and sultry and I have been loving it recently. It isn't necessarily an autumn winter fragrance, I have just found myself reaching for it time and time again.

Lastly is another product that will help with any lack lustre nails this winter time. I am trying to use oil as my nails as I have become a little bit lazy with nail care when it used to be a big part of my night time routine. Nail oils will stop your nails going dry which will stop them peeling and will result in evenly applied, longer lasting nail varnish which is what you want when you're wearing darker, berry shades of nail varnish this season usually requires. Usually in the summer with lighter colours you won't notice a small chip but daker colour can look very scruffy very quickly so regular nail care is a must do, plus it will moisturise the skin around the nail and stop any painful hang nails.
This nail oil is from an Australian brand called Sienna which is a vegan, non toxic, cruelty free brand. The only sell their oil in a set and unfortunately we do not have these products in the UK, but any type of nail oil will suffice and I have found the Phenomenon oil by Jessica is a great one to use!

What products have you been going for this Season?
Do you have any tips or product recommendations for dry skin, particularly around the eye?

Recent Shopping Haul

I haven't done a post on any products recently so thought I would show you some of the things I have been buying recently.

This colour is from the Jessica limited edition collection and is a very lary green which I love! I thought it would be perfect for Halloween so bought it the other day. The Jessica polishes are £9.75 but I think I will get a lot of use out of this colour!

This lip balm is a wonderous little product from Dior. 'Lip Glow' cleverly adapts itself to your lips, to make them look a more natural brighter redder colour, to a shade that would suit your skin. It does add a lovely colour and a slight gloss but doesn't have any of the stickiness of a gloss. It is also highly moisturising! It is around £22.00.

I have had my eye on the Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Mascara for a very long time. I haven't heard the best stories about this mascara, such as its lasting power and that it dries up quite quickly, but I was desperate to try it. The reason? Because my favourite model of the moment Cara Delivigne is the face of this mascara. I wish this was not the reason I spent £24.00 on a mascara that I've been told not to buy, but it really is. I will do a follow up post to let you know how it goes!

I recently stocked up on my must have moisturiser for the winter. I have written about this moisturiser before (here), but I really must stress just how amazing it is! Once again at this time of year, the dreaded dry skin around my nose has returned. This is the ONLY moistursier that can reduce the redness and stop it being painful. I absolutely swear by this product and recommend it to anyone who has and skin problems or complaints. At £7.00 this is such a bargain and my life saver product.

This cuticle butter from Burt's Bees is really zesty smelling and lovely. It soaks into the skin quite quickly and isn't as messy as a cuticle oil. The bees wax helps to soften the cuticles and it has an fresh lemon scent. It's a great product to keep in your handbag as it comes in a handy tin. Considering I work for a nail brand, I would recommend this cuticle butter to everyone!

Eve Lom is famous for it's cleanser, and I understand why. This cleanser is the definition of luxury. At £55.00 for 100ml or £85.00 for 200ml, I haven't actually bought one, but got this brilliant sample. It's a very generous sample that comes with a sachet of about 3 uses of the cleanser and a muslin cloth. The cleanser turns into a oil when it reaches skin temperature and its melts away all the dirt and makeup you have on your face. The muslin cloth allows you to pat the cleanser into the skin and penetrate into the deeper layers of skin. Vogue has described it as the best cleanser in the world, and do you know what? I think I agree.

New Profile Picture

My profile picture for my 'What a Looker' Facebook page has always been a bit weak, so I decided to do something about it!

My very talented boyfriend did all the editing, and also helped me with my vision, not only on this picture, but for my whole blog so please take a look at his blog also

or his website

Here is my new picture! It's a bit weird and slightly creepy, but it incorporates nail art which I love, and it's not so serious. I'm not your typical 'beauty' kind of person, and I expect a lot of people who know me think it's probably quite out of character for me to be into beauty, as I quite often look a bit of a state and I don't do fake tan and eyelashes. But it is something I really enjoy, so I think this reflects me quite well! I tried to keep the pink and green theme and keep it fun. The lipstick I am wearing is Dior in Trafalgar and the nail varnish is Barry M.

If this is not an excuse to make you lot go and like the page, then I don't know what is!! Click the 'Like' button and let me know what you think of the new look!

Dior Overcurl Mascara

The fateful day that my Dior Overcurl Mascara ran out occured a few weeks ago, and it is only now that I feel I can review it now the sadness has dampened. As you can probably tell, I really loved this mascara. It was lightweight, easy to wear and did exactly what it said on the bottle.

The Dior Overcurl is the newest of the Dior mascaras, and lengthens and curls lashes, but in a very subtle and natural way. I don't like lashes that look over the top and I'm not a huge fan of clumping either. This mascara was perfect for coating each individual lash, and its thick wand made it very easy to apply to every corner of the eye. For £23.00 it isn't a mascara I could buy all the time, but it certainly is a luxury product I will miss.

Dior

Dior have a wonderful new range of lip glosses and nail colours! The whole range aims to be seductive yet summery and the light pink, reds, and orange shades really pack a punch.

The glosses are long lasting and non sticky and have a strong colour. If you have a preference on glosses then you can be sure to find one you like as there are strong coloured glosses, pearly or shimmery effects. The high shine makes them really brighten up an outfit and there is certainly plenty of choice. The light reflecting particles make your lips a statement, and they also have a plumping effect. They also come in lipsticks too if you prefer a denser colour with a more matte finish.

The new nail colours also reflect the playfuness and brightness of the glosses. With each nail colour adopting a shade from bright red to pretty pinks, any nail paint will go with any gloss, and they have a fantastic little testing device on their website where you can pick and choose which gloss and nail paint to try together, to give you a better look at how versatile the collection is. Each nail colour is priced at £15.

Princess is on trend with all the new pink shades coming out for summer. With more of a paleness, it is one of the more subtle colours but is slight shimmer adds to the 'princess' feel.

'Spring Ball' is a pretty coral colour with peachy tones, and again it has a slight shimmer to make it more girly.

'Diablotine' is a smouldering pink colour dabbling with red shades. This is more of a bold colour.

'Delice' is right on trend with the orange toned nails that is storming the nail trend this Spring. Again, it is a more subtle orange but it will still make your hands and feet look sun kissed and glowing.

Another exciting addition to the Dior collection is the gel coat top coat. Leaving your manicure with a gel effect finish, the coat leaves a high shine and smooth effect that lasts for days. It's flexible and protects the nails with a professional finish. It's rumored to be better than some of the exclusive nail companies gel top coat so this is definitely worth  purchase at £18.

*I do not own these products. I have permission at my place of work to take pictures of stock
